Quarterly Report May 2022
Financials
HRN’s balance was $594k at the end of 2021. It has left us financially healthy with cash to build out the new shelter space and pay for an employee
Our net revenue for 2021 was $256,276.78. At this level we are required by the IRS to have an audit. Suellen researched this and found a reasonable ($5k) price from Mariya Babson. We have contracted with her to perform the audit.
Suellen is investigating firms to help with the book keeping. She did get one quote which was about $35k per year.
Adoptions
As of May 15, 102 adoptions so far this year. Adoptions have really slowed down and numbers are behind previous years.
Fundraisers
A Plush Is Enough donating $4,000
Yoga: Having a hard time finding yoga partners (spaces and instructors). Arielle is looking into renting space, which would be cheaper than partnering with a yoga studio, but we would need to find a volunteer yoga instructor.
3/20 – Redemption Rock Brewery – $1,076.40 for Day 1 and $1,040.52 for Day 2
2/19 – Roots Yoga $950
4/3 – Roots Yoga – $695 profit for HRN
4/8 – Barre & Soul – $495 profit for HRN
Baby Bunny Brunch Auctions: First one sold for $222, second for $200, and third for $185.
Spa Day at Devine Mar 20 raised $1050
Two scheduled for May 22 & May 28 in Billerica
Grants
Waiting to hear about the MAC grant. They were supposed to be awarded the end of April.
Development Committee Update:
June – Got Bunz? shirts (Rachel needs photo of previous design)
July – Flatbread
Aug. – Online auction?
Aug. – Bunny Hop?
Sept. – 5K
Oct. – Poorly Drawn Pets
Nov. – Anniversary Party
Dec. – Holiday Photos, possibly with vendors
Shelter
Hoping to get things resolved with the BOH this week so we can move forward. Working on the occupancy permit. Getting a quote to get epoxy on the walls to be in compliance with the state. We did get the report needed for the fire department. They are satisfied with the report. We will need an annual permit from the fire department.
Misty (vet, new foster home) knows someone selling a surgical suite. I have asked for more information as this might be good for us to help get set up with supplies.
Donation Management
We need to hire a development director.
Foster Homes:
Foster Committee has grown and is more structured with team members having more official roles. Pam Weir and Kay Benson will be in charge of contacting new foster home applicants, Palestina Baronas will be focusing on intakes and surgical scheduling, Bethany Wilson will be in charge of medical record entry.
Spays and Neuters are becoming increasingly difficult to find and schedule. Intake requests are still coming in, however all private surrenders are pretty much on hold due to lack of space. ACO’s and fellow shelters are taking priority for intake spaces.
We will have about 22 babies needing placement in individual spots come June.
RHD Update
Held by Peake Brook Veterinary Center in Woodstock, CT on 4/13 (Wed) and booster on 5/4 (Wed). Each day had a good turnout-registration done by Dr. Michelle Kneeland vet staff. Will look to partner in future. ($80 charge for vaccine/chip)
Hotline:
We’ve had a busy year so far at the hotline – our application process has been consolidated into Petstablished, we’ve added a Discord chat tool to help volunteers communicate in real time from application questions to success stories, and we’ve even started a virtual “hoppy hour” for volunteers to connect on, complete with rabbit-themed trivia. We’re excited to welcome back volunteer Steph Fagundes and also welcome two new volunteers to our team: Erin O’Reilly and Matt Ho. We are looking forward to having them share their wealth of knowledge and love of buns with the hotline and our adopters
Outreach
From Gillian: “Slow, but building momentum? I’m still trying to get a feel for the table layout, and the first event I’ll actually be there for is the library event so I’ll be able to get a better sense of what we can do to make everything better. I think we can make more of an impact via videos, which I will get to after this wedding I’m in on June 4!! Sorry I don’t have more feedback yet. Let me know if there’s a different direction I should be heading.”
