Everyone equates rabbits with spring because of Easter, but fall is the perfect season for fun with your bun! Normally, this would be the temperate time of year we’d encourage folks to take rabbits and ex-pens outside for some supervised fall playtime. Unfortunately, due to Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease (RHDV2) – a disease dangerous to both wild and domestic rabbits – to be safe, bunnies should currently be in lockdown. While there are currently no recorded cases in Massachusetts, please err on the side of caution and keep your bunnies inside.

This is not a problem for the intrepid rabbit owner, though! There are tons of great ways to make sure you and your bunny friends have fall fun. First and foremost, make sure your bunnies are getting just as much indoor playtime as they would have been getting outside. If your rabbits are free roam already, try giving them some new or interesting toys they haven’t seen before, or at least in a while. This will encourage exercise and of course, will be super fun.

You can even get creative and bring in some fall-themed entertainment. One superb fall treat for rabbits is pinecones. Luckily, unlike fallen leaves, which should never be given to your rabbit due to potential mold growth and exposure to possibly infected wild animals, you can bring in pinecones from outside for your rabbits. Just be sure to prepare them properly, directions for which can be found here. No pinecones around? You can probably find them pre-packaged at your local pet store, or you can order them online from reputable dealers like Small Pet Select.

What would fall be without a bit of Halloween fun! Get your bunnies in on it this year with the fantastic cardboard Halloween houses now in stock at Target. These are designed with cats in mind, but are absolutely perfect for rabbits too! There are multiple designs, so you can find the best haunted house for you and your pets.

We hope you and all of your rabbits have a safe and fun, toy-filled fall!
