Quarterly Report February/March 2023

Official / General

Financials
HRN still needs a bookkeeper/administrative person (17-20 hours per month, more during tax prep season). The job posting will go live the week of March 14.
HRN hired Mark Mueller, CPA for 2022 Financial Statement Review, 990 and PC Form.
2022 Draft Financials: Gross Revenue $243,158.24, Net Revenue $118,905.64
Suellen is resigning as treasurer as of June 1 but will be available to work with the new treasurer to get them set up. HRN will need to look for a new treasurer.

Adoptions

269 adoptions in 2022, a large drop from previous years. Intake requests were higher than normal which we suspect is related to people returning to normal from covid.

Fundraisers

Bingo on Jan 20th raised $2,294. Everyone seemed to have a good time.
2023 Calendars sold out
Bunny Yoga in Andover (Jan. 21) – sold out – raised $1400
Feb. auction – record number of items – still waiting for some payments and will tally total afterward
Tarot Card readings are April 1. We will have 3 readers this time and HRN will get 60% of the profits. There are 48 slots for sale.
Flatbread is scheduled for June 13th this year. Donation requests will be going out soon.

Services (Spa Days, Bunsitting)

Spa Day (Jan. 28) – sold out – raised $1200
Now offering private bonding consultations on friendsofhrn.org/bondingconsultations – $25 for 30 minutes or $40 for one hour with a handful of select volunteers
Bunsitting online system up and running – Dawn Orsi took over

Development Committee Update:

Looking for a new yoga coordinator

Grants
MAC Grant – we quickly went through the second check for spay/neuter surgeries. Unfortunately poor record keeping resulted in us underestimating the need and we lost $1509 due to the second check being lower. This likely will impact how much money they award in 2023. Suzanne is working on the MAC grant due Mar 31.

We have been invited to submit an application for a grant from the Marion and Richard Graham Foundation due Apr 1. The family that adopted Statler recommended us.

Donation Management

There are monthly donations coming in from PayPal, and I will look into finding out those numbers.
Below are the monthly donors on Friends of HRN:

Big Bun / Hero
26 x $10
$260
Bigger Bun / Super Hero
33 x $25
$825
Biggest Bun / Epic Hero
18 x $50
$900

Shelter
Shelter is running smoothly, we have recruited a number of new volunteers. Adoptions appointments and Spa days are ongoing.

Clinic
We have a draft budget of $529k which was significantly higher than anticipated. Will be discussing at the board meeting.

Foster Homes:

We are always in need and are actively in search of good foster homes. Kari Oulette and I briefly discussed holding an info session for potential foster homes. I need to follow up with this and schedule it. Kari has offered to write an outline. I want to avoid advertising for foster home applications. Previously that resulted in very few good candidates and wasn’t an efficient use of our time.

Kay has been mainly working on interviewing foster homes, setting them up in the system. She has also been working on learning how to do reports in petstablished. Trying to figure out who is still active, what buns are in what location etc. She recently sent out an email to those homes who didn’t have a bun to see if they still wanted to be on our active list. A few stepped forward saying they were ready for a bun! Yay!

Pam has been managing intakes (owner surrenders, returns, strays etc). Also managing surgeries/vet appointments, foster home placement and day to day questions from foster homes. Data entry including medical records and new contacts.

Liz has a lot of great ideas for the foster home committee and how to best organize and be more efficient.

Goals
Schedule a foster home info session.
Finish and release new foster home application on Petstablished (before info session)
Create a foster home manual
Strategize and implement improved protocol for record keeping
Community building within our foster home community

Sara C is working hard cleaning up the database and getting our data in good shape.

Hotline:

The hotline is handling a steady stream of applications and were excited to help find wonderful homes for some of our longer residents in the last month or two, as well as some trios and pairs. Special thank you to Nikki, who continues to lend her bonding expertise both to the hotline team and to HRN through her educational webinars. I’m pleased to announce that the hotline has added two new full time volunteers since the beginning of the year. Briahnna is a RI based vet tech, who brings a great medical perspective in addition to her love of buns. Our newest volunteer starting 3/13 is Rosie. Rosie also volunteers at the HRN shelter and has gotten up to speed on the hotline quickly with her prior adoption experience as a shelter volunteer. We’re so thankful to have you both on the hotline team!

Outreach
We are holding our monthly Intro to Bunnies webinars.
There was a bunny bonding webinar held Feb 13.
We will be scheduling a grooming class in the future.
Suzanne will schedule a health assessment class.

RHD
Currently no cases of RHDV2 in MA, VT, NH, RI and no further cases in CT, NY, or NJ.
Still working on protocols for RHDV2 in our shelter and foster homes and the HRS document is a good document we can use as a template. We have purchased Rescue for use in the shelter but we still have lots of vinegar for cleaning so currently using it. We can also use bleach for cleaning instead of rescue if cost becomes an issue. Both have noxious fumes in the concentration necessary for disinfection.

For example:

For Foster homes:
Practical Cleaning and Disinfection Recommendations
Preparation: Disinfectants Household bleach
hypochlorite, household bleach, is the most accessible disinfectant available to rabbit owners. To prepare the correct dilution add 1⁄2 cup of 6% or 8.25% sodium hypochlorite bleach concentrate to one gallon of potable water. Contact time needed is 5 minutes. Wear nitrile, silicon or rubber gloves and eye protection and work in a well ventilated area when mixing and handling the bleach or bleach solution. Wear protective clothing to avoid contact with the skin.
